NYSHFA prepares the Facility-Group Cost Comparison report especially for your facility, using your facility as the focus facility and the peer group of your choice for the comparison group.
Reports include six separate modules, outlined below. In addition, the initial average 2008 case mix index (CMI) for the group is compared to the facility’s CMI. Our Committee and staff highly recommend this report to all members.

Total Cost Profile:
The Cost Profile report includes a comparison of a facility’s costs per patient day and the costs per patient day of the group. A summary by direct, indirect and non-comparable cost centers is provided.
Salary Profile:
This report compares a facility’s salaries and wages per hours paid to the group’s salaries and wages per hours paid. The report provides a summary for direct, indirect and non-comparable cost centers.
Staffing Profile:
The Staffing Profile provides a detailed analysis of a facility’s staffing patterns by comparing hours paid per bed to the hours paid per bed of the group. The report provides a summary for direct, indirect and non-comparable cost centers.
Expense Profile by Natural Classification:
The Expense Profile report provides a detailed comparison of expenses using natural classifications categories (i.e. employee benefits, FICA). The report shows expenses per patient day.
Statistical Profile:
This report analyzes costs and salaries per statistical allocation unit (SAU) of measure (i.e. dietary meals served) and compares the facility’s results to the group. The report also provides SAUs per bed and SAUs per FTE.
Census Profile:
This report analyzes information derived from Part I of the RHCF-4. Patients are counted by age, payer source, discharge destination, and length of stay for the facility and compared as percentages to the group.
The 2008 costs used in the profile reports are allocated to the RHCF program area using the stepdown traceback cost allocation method.
The comparison group of facilities can be selected by:
- Selecting group criteria by checking fields on the order form, or
- Selecting individual facilities to be included in a comparison group. To select individual facilities, simply select “Select individual facilities” and fax or mail the order form to NYSHFA. We will send you a listing of the facilities included in the 2008 RHCF-4 cost report file.
