Accident/Incident Investigations and Revised Reporting Requirements

Effective October 17, 2011 the procedure for reporting abuse, neglect or mistreatment to the NYSDOH has changed.  Electronic notification of reportable accidents/incidents is just the beginning of the notification revisions.  Along with this new procedure, DOH has issued extensive clarifications regarding what to report, when to report and how to report a myriad of events that may occur in your facility.  The clarifications range from reporting abuse, sexual assault, verbal abuse, elopement, injuries of unknown origin to failure to follow the care plan.  It all starts with the Accident/Incident Investigation!  This program will help Administrators and Directors of Nursing learn how to revise facility policies and procedures and develop systems to ensure viable accident/incident investigations are conducted to maintain compliance in abuse reporting activities.
